What Makes Linden-McKinley Outstanding
Students learn through inquiry-based and project-based instructional strategies, utilizing the STEM design cycle (STEM stands for: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). We offer advanced course work in Advanced Placement class in math, history, English, and science. Students are expected to be able to tell someone what they have learned and be able to demonstrate that learning. Students are also expected to participate in Extended Learning Time outside of school and do a minimum of 15 minutes of work per class. Linden-McKinley STEM offers Credentialed Pathways toward graduation in construction and Agriculture as well. The Credentialed Pathways are supported by elective options beginning in the grade that prepare students for the academic rigor of high school.
Grade-level STEM elective options are provided to prepare students for relevant industry skills. Each of the four feeder schools works with LMSA to infuse their curriculum with STEM instructional strategies to close the gap on achievement.
Our City Year program provided extra instructional time for students to meet the rigorous demands of Common Core Educational Partnerships include: Columbus Crew/Honda Acura, St. Stephens Community House, Communities in Schools, City Year, Ohio Department of Transportation, Columbus Rotary, Columbus State Community College, Education Service Center of Central Ohio, and GetCr8v.
BE THE ONE is an elective program addressing students' fundamental SEL needs. This is a program where students are given the tools to combat the negative impacts of debilitating childhood traumas within a safe space. BE THE ONE is a program that serves the community both inside and outside of Linden-McKinley and creates a ripple effect of kindness, consideration, and inclusion. This program is centered around 5 key intervention areas:
- Allowing oneself to get close to others
- Learning to take care of one's own physical and emotional needs
- Getting honest about recognizing defense mechanisms
- Acting unafraid
- Allowing for extension to others and being supported
